Paul’s Ten Point Plan To Fight Violent Crime In Hennepin County

May 24, 2022 (HENNEPIN COUNTY, MN) – In a move presently unmatched by fellow challengers in the Hennepin County Attorney’s race,  Assistant Anoka County Attorney and former Minneapolis Council President Paul Ostrow has announced plans for robust and sweeping measures aimed at combating ballooning numbers of violent crimes across the county.

“The most recent numbers in Hennepin County are staggering,” said Ostrow. “In Minneapolis alone- assaults are up 28%, robberies up 114 % and gunshots up 278%.

Trends in the suburbs are equally disturbing.” When asked about the process which resulted in the crime plan, Ostrow explained: “The power of the Hennepin County Attorney’s office to make positive change is greater than most people think- but only when it prioritizes enforcing the law, enacting sound internal policies  and best practices, and is focused on serving people.

This plan was made in consultation with  prosecutors and police chiefs with input from public defenders who can clearly see the opportunities to do more and to do better. We seek to restore a sense of safety and justice with the entire community in mind.”

The 10-step plan includes key themes such as: “Fix Our Broken Juvenile Justice System”, “Aggressively Prosecute Carjacking Cases”, and “Hold Fentanyl Dealers Accountable,” each including specific proposals  described by Ostrow as “better policy, better practices, and a commitment to enforce the law.”
